How is thermal storage different from a battery?

Lithium batteries store electricity, then convert it back to heat when you need it, losing efficiency at every step. Thermal Dawn stores heat and cold directly, so your dawn solar becomes evening comfort without the conversion losses, degradation, or fire risk. How much does it cost?

I already have a battery. Does this still help?

Yes, and the two aren't competing. A battery is expensive storage doing a general-purpose job; thermal storage is cheap storage doing one job very well. Heating, cooling and hot water are the largest, most predictable loads in the house, and covering them thermally is far cheaper per kWh than covering them from lithium.

The practical effect is that your battery stops being the thing that carries your heating. It's freed up for lights, appliances, the EV and overnight backup, and it lasts longer for not being cycled hard every winter evening. Homes with a battery already are often the clearest case, because the expensive storage stops being spent on the cheapest possible job.
